Saraceno’s monumental sculpture debuts at the shedīringing together new and recent work, ‘particular matter(s)’ builds upon tomás saraceno’s platforms and projects that invite visitors to deeply understand and celebrate the radical interconnectedness of all things. Tomás saraceno, free the air: how to hear the universe in a spiderweb, 2022 | photo nicholas knight with the ambience of suspension, quietness, and smallness, the visitor transforms themself into a spider in its web, hearing the universe around them. in this new world, distant movements of mysterious, larger bodies create vibrations. at this moment of conceptual nightfall, visitors suddenly experience the scale of a spider in its web. ![]() The tiktok post, which notes that ‘ you need to check out this installation in NYC,’ captures the entrance into the otherworldly globe, just before the abstract ‘sun’ overhead dims and visitors are cast into the night. it has gained new popularity across the social media platform due to the intensely engaging experience, which invites visitors to ‘hear the universe in a spiderweb.’ the installation is almost sublime, harkening to the conceptual cenotaph for newton as viewers enter into a massive globe - 95 feet in diameter - removed from the real world and into a separate universe. ![]() additionally, an expansive survey exhibition of the artist’s works and projects will occupy the level two and level four galleries of the SHED.Īfter its opening last month the exhibition’s immersive and sensory ‘free the air’ installation has gotten another boost on tiktok. a highlight of the show is ‘free the air: how to hear the universe in a spider/web,’ a 95-foot-diameter (29-meter) sensory installation commissioned by the SHED that will fill the arts center’s soaring mccourt space. From february 11 to april 17, 2022, the SHED presents ‘ tomás saraceno: particular matter(s)’, the artist’s largest US exhibition to date. ![]()
